Haridwar
Haridwar is in the foothills of the Himalayas and is especially revered by the Hindus as being the exact place where the Ganges leaves the mountains. Haridwar is one of the four auspicious places to bathe in the Ganges. While I was there there were hundreds of thousands doing exactly that. I saw only a handful of westerners in the couple of days here and saw just how important the river is in the lives of so many people.
